For First Time in History, 30-Year Mortgage Drops Below 4 Percent

The average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage has been hovering below 5% for most of the past year, but this last week it did something completely new — dipped below 4%. In fact, the rate was pegged at 3.94% according to Freddie Mac on Oct. 6.
